Job Description: The New York Power Authority is seeking an Environmental Scientist for the Astoria, NY office. Under the general direction of the Regional Manager, the Environmental Engineer will lead the Environmental Programs at NYPA’s Small Clean Power Plants (SCPP’S), Flynn and 500 MW Projects. This position is particularly focused to ensure compliance with all applicable environmental monitoring, recordkeeping and reporting requirements associated with fossil-fueled projects to ensure compliance with all federal, state, local and corporate environmental requirements. Hands on management of existing compliance programs including petroleum and chemical bulk storage, hazardous and non-hazardous waste management (RCRA), SPDES discharges, wastewater management OPA 90, SPCC spill response and numerous natural resource protection initiatives. The successful candidate will be at times required to direct specialty contractors as necessary. Interface with and provide backup to the site Safety professional With assistance from Corporate EHS develop and implement changes to regulatory programs as required. Required Skills: A bachelors degree in (Environmental Management or Studies, Biology, Chemistry, Ecology, or similar) is required. An advanced degree is desirable. Experience Required: Significant experience in relevant environmental disciplines (i.e. air, water, hazardous material, waste, reporting, etc.) is required with a minimum of 3 years of experience in environmental management. Industrial plant experience is required and power plant experience is a plus. Knowledge of New York State and federal regulations and agencies is expected.
