The Transmission Operator is a member of the combined electric and natural gas transmission system crew at the System Operations Control Center (SOCC). The Transmission Operator is responsible for controlling, scheduling, and monitoring flows on the NorthWestern Energy electric and natural gas transmission system, including transmission tie lines with other utilities and recording and reporting transmission system data. DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTION - All NorthWestern Energy employees are required to adhere to company safety standards
- Operator has the responsibility and authority to implement real time actions that ensure stable and reliable operations of the bulk electric and natural gas transmission system
- Must learn all functions of the job including scheduling of Transmission, OASIS, AGC, Transmission line switching and the functions of the Gas
- Transmission dispatch
- Job is performed in an office environment mostly sitting, with occasional lifting of office materials weighing up to 35 pounds
- 12 hour rotating shift work is required
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS - Must be able to demonstrate a good safety record
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
- Must be able to think clearly and function appropriately in high stress situations
- Must be able to make decisions quickly and accurately
- Must have good oral and written communication skills
- Must have personal computer operating experience
- Must be proficient in use of Microsoft Office programs
- Must be able to quickly learn specialized computer applications
- Minimum 3 years Electric or Gas operating experience
- Must have ability to obtain NERC certification within 1 year
- Must obtain DOT certification for operation of gas system
- Must possess strong interpersonal communication skills
