Job Description

Ampersand Operations Co, LLC (“AOC”) is seeking a full-time engineer for the operations, maintenance, and development of hydroelectric power generating facilities. AOC provides operations services to Ampersand Hydro, LLC (“Ampersand”). The individual will be responsible for overseeing operation and maintenance (“O&M”) activities of all of Ampersand’s power generating facilities across the Northeast US. Candidate will be expected to be “hands-on”, conducting as well as managing O&M activities in conjunction with other AOC employees and contractors. Acting as the link between the operating teams at each site and Ampersand’s asset managers will be a crucial component of this position.

Note that this position requires constant communication with each operating team as well as frequent site visits. As such, candidates should be prepared to travel regularly across New York and New England.


The candidate is required to hold a mechanical or electrical engineering degree, preferably with a focus on hydroelectric power generation. Previous experience (10 years +) developing or operating hydroelectric machinery is essential.

Role and Responsibilities


  • Oversee and monitor operations and performance at all units controlled by Ampersand
  • Attend FERC site visits and advise management on FERC operations-related issues
  • Take charge of ongoing and upcoming maintenance issues
  • Plan and execute necessary maintenance work
  • Plan and execute annual servicing of each unit
  • Identify, plan, execute and monitor necessary major maintenance work


  • Communicate with local operating staff on ongoing basis
  • Visit each site on a pre-determined schedule
  • Become first point of contact for local operating staff
  • Maintain appropriate records of service at each of the units


  • Provide brief weekly maintenance report to Ampersand management
  • Communicate with Ampersand asset managers regarding all minor and major maintenance issues
  • Provide major maintenance report for upcoming year
  • Such other reporting requirements as Ampersand management may direct
  • Business Development
  • Perform engineering due diligence for potential asset purchases
  • Provide due diligence reports to Ampersand management
