Job Description:

The Reliability Compliance and Standards Engineer supports the manager in the implementation and maintenance of NYPA’s program for compliance with the NERC reliability standards, the Northeast Power Coordinating Council (NPCC) regional atandards and criteria, and the New York State Reliability Council (NYSRC) rules. The individual will work with various departments within NYPA including: engineering, operations, corporate security, information services, training, human resources, and others to ensure compliance with the applicable standards. 



Required Skills:

  • Must be familiar with the NERC’s Reliability Standards; the Northeast Power Coordinating Council’s (NPCC) Regional Standards and Criteria; and the New York State Reliability Council (NYSRC) Rules.
  • Must possess a strong technical knowledge in generation, bulk transmission system engineering, planning, design and operations in order to evaluate detailed oriented documents or materials to support compliance.
  • Must have ability to conduct technical assessments involving review and interpretation of design documents and drawings for applicability to technical reliability standards.
  • Must have excellent planning, organization and presentation skills in order to communicate to all audience levels.
  • Must have exceptional team attitude and the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships within the industry and with internal stakeholders.
  • Recommend voting actions representing NYPA in the development of revisions to existing or new reliability standards.



Experience Required:

Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field of engineering plus a minimum of 10 years in the Electric Utility Industry.  Must have excellent communication skills - written and verbal, skills and aptitude for use of electronic data and document management systems (e.g. SharePoint and WebC), and experience in bulk transmission system engineering, planning, design and operations.

A PE License and experience with auditing or other assessment related fields is preferred.
