Coordinate work with other groups to ensure meeting commitments typically on remotely operated maintenance and testing equipment. Recommend measures to improve operations and customer service. Typical duties/responsibilities for field service may include, but are not limited to, the following: Perform complex field service operations that typically present unusual problems requiring strong technical skills. Construct complex prototype models or simulated systems, as requested. Provide leadership in the assembly and operation of laboratory and field service equipment. Conduct tests or experiments requiring selection and adaptation or modification of equipment and procedures. Record, compile and reduce data for analysis and assist in related assessment and preparation of reports. Troubleshoot and repair equipment, applying own knowledge and experience. Recommend changes such as new equipment or modified procedures to improve performance and customer satisfaction. Conduct detailed inventories and inspections to determine necessary maintenance and repairs, and assist in determining resource requirements. Lead the performance of assigned field services projects such as non-destructive examinations and analysis. May be responsible for direction, analysis and reports involving complex test projects. Assist in planning and coordinating team efforts. Guide less experienced technicians and instruct them in proper and safe operation of equipment. Often work non standard schedules at field locations with exposure to varying environmental conditions. COMPLEXITY OF TASKS: Requires thorough understanding of Company products and equipment, engineering concepts and practices. Requires ability to select most effective approaches and adapting standard practices and procedures to resolve complex semi-technical problems. Requires strong communications skills and ability to lead less experienced staff. Decisions and actions are based on individual knowledge and experience and may affect quality, delay schedules and result in rework as assignments are not subject to close scrutiny. Highly complex problems are referred to engineers or supervisor. | | | TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS: Associate's Degree in engineering or related field plus 5 to 9 years of experience or a special combination of education and experience and/or demonstrated accomplishments. | | | | | | | 6 years of mechanical experience, as ships mechanic first class in diesel or rotating machinery, knowledge of close tolerances, blueprint readings and metric measurements. Ability to write electronic technical reports. Ability to communicate with customers and professionally represents ABB. Knowledge of English language. Knowledge of SAP Safety oriented, knowledge of lifting and rigging. Metric and imperial measuring tools with high degree of accuracy. Ability to lead a small team of service engineers.
